Early Childhood Development Programs

The Neuro-Linguistic Learning Center recently introduced its Early Childhood Neuro-Sensory Development and Neuro-Sensory Integration Programs for young children, ages 2 to 6, who may be at risk for developing a variety of sensory processing disorders or learning challenges.

Specific sensory processing disorders which can show up later in a child’s life include Dyslexia, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit/Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), Auditory Processing Disorder, Sensory Integration Disorder, Asperger’s Syndrome, Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS).

While conventional diagnosis for some learning issues may or may not be possible until a child is older, identifying at-risk children at an early age (2-6) can allow for early intervention. Some of the characteristics of at-risk children include:

__ Delayed speech or language skills;

__ Difficulty processing auditory information;

__ Unusual or delayed social behaviors;

__ Difficulty transitioning from one activity to another;

__ Above Average visual or spatial awareness;

__ Above average intelligence;

__ Eye tracking problems;

__ Delayed fine or gross motor skills;

__ Difficulty with reading or reading comprehension;

__ Dislikes reading;

__ Stutters;

__ Is forgetful;

__ Has difficulty remembering;

__ Avoids eye contact;

__ Frequently tunes out what’s happening;

__ Watches what others are doing or needs to see gestures before following directions;

__ One or both parents having Dyslexia, ADD or other sensory processing disorders.

Children with two or more of these characteristics may be at-risk for some type of sensory-based learning challenge.

The bad news is our current education system seems ill-equipped to deal with the complexities of many sensory processing issues.

The good news is that early intervention and treatment can help alleviate many of the difficulties that typically occur for children with sensory processing or sensory integration disorders.

All too often, the gifts that these children bring to the world go unrecognized and unappreciated by a rigidly defined and often inflexible educational system. Without outside assistance, many of these children will struggle and eventually flounder.

For this reason, the Neuro-Linguistic Learning Center recently introduced its Early Childhood Neuro-Sensory Development Programs for children, ages 2 to 6.

These programs provide specific interventions to help alleviate many of the learning challenges that are often associated with sensory processing or sensory integration issues.
